Ski Weekend 2008

We took the NaylorNutHouse on the road this weekend for Matthew and Adam's first ski adventure with Grandma and Grandpa Naylor. We traveled about 60 miles north to Mansfield (home to Snow Trails), which also happens to be the half way point to Stow, our hometown.

Friday couldn't come any sooner. Matthew wouldn't stop talking about the trip, especially after I took him to get fitted for boots and skis earlier in the week. He was so excited the night I brought them home. Despite their awkwardness, the boots didn't seem to bother Matthew as he walked around the house with them on (including the skis).

Saturday arrives, and we head out to the slopes. Just getting Matthew to the bunny hill was a workout. But we made it, and it was moment of truth. And there is no question, skiing must run in the Naylor blood! He's a natural! By the third attempt, he was skiing down the bunny hill all by himself!! Check it out:

Watching Matthew ski for the first time took my parents down memory lane. I too started skiing about his age. I cannot believe he caught on so quickly. Granted, Matthew has a lot to learn still, including how to stop!! I tried to explain how to make a "V" shape with his skis. Well, he did, but they were pointed the wrong way. It only made him go faster down the hill! I'm sure he'll catch on real soon.

On your mark...

Get set....

SKI!

And while Adam is still a little too young to put skis on, I'm sure watching his brother in the future will motivate him. This time, though, he enjoyed a nice snooze in warm lodge. He also had a good time hanging out with his big brother at the hotel room, especially in our king size bed! Too bad Mom and Dad couldn't sleep in ... the boys are human alarm clocks!! They always wake up by 6:30am in the morning... even during the weekends... even while on a mini-vacation!

Unfortunately, our fun weekend ended on a sour note. On Sunday, Matthew woke up with very red, puffy, and glassy-looking eyes. Then they started producing "gunk." It prompted a visit to Urgent Care. And it was what we thought all along: Pink eye.. in both eyes! Oh, and there was the surprise ear infection too! So once again, we're starting off a week with a sick child. What fun!

That's awesome, I'm glad he caught on quicker than I did! You'll be happy to know that I now know how to get myself up when I fall instead of relying on others! Maybe next time I'm home in the winter we can go skiing, I'm really loving it nowadays! I even bought my own boots on the trip to Switzerland! (my used rentals, but they were very comfortable so I got a good deal!) Hope everything is going well there and the pink eye is getting better!! Love, Auntie Kelly xoxox
